irritating developments

the headlines of a week

Last week Wednesday there was apparently a politically motivated arson attack on property owned by Deutsche Wohnen (see picture report here). In the "Action week against rent madness" the organizers extend the expropriation wishes now also on private small landlords (report of the citizen of Berlin newspaper see cover picture). Our ruling Berlin party SPD votes for one at their party congress constitutionally questionable Rental cover (see here) and does not clearly say no to expropriations, but postpones the vote in the fall (see here).

Gradually, I have the feeling that a development has started here, which develops a dangerous momentum of its own and in the end is no longer controllable by its initiators. Violence as a political tool? Expropriation of the population? There seems to be a lack of a foundation on a broad scale that provides prosperity and security. As a child of the GDR, I can still well remember how we had to fear for the Federal Republic of Germany, the bananas and the desire not to be afraid of every policeman you meet. Extremist collectivity is and has never been positive in history, neither left nor right.

the only working solution

When people have to fear that they will take away the fruits of their labors, they will not bother. Expropriations as well as overstretching tax burdens therefore slow down economic development - again a reminiscence of the end of the GDR. If people have to fear being violated, they will go if they can. The economic and intellectual elite are leaving the country. Do we want to build a new wall around Germany to prevent people from doing so?

I confess to the rule of law. These include, among others

  • Freedom of expression without sanction,
  • Education and retention may be owned by property,
  • the security against encroachments of the state and
  • the state protection against attacks of others.

If the legislature's organs are no longer sure whether they want to take over extremist positions, something is confused. The foundations of our coexistence wobble.
